Erzsébet Pince

Erzsébet Winery is an artisan family winery. The winery was founded in 1989 (time of the change in political system) by one of the wine region’s first women winemakers, Mrs Erzsébet Prácser. Erzsébet and her husband Miklós bought a historic cellar in the centre of Tokaj, in the wine merchants’ street. Probably carved out in the 1600s, the cellar was later used by the Russian Wine Purchasing Committee. The winery was named after its founder and Czar Elizabeth who used it in the 1700s.

Depending on the vintage Erzsébet Winery makes 10 to 12 thousand bottles annually, all from grapes grown in historic vineyards classified as First or Second Growth by Máttyás Bél in the 18th century, that is the region’s outstanding vineyards. The four members of the Prácser family run the winery, dividing the tasks: Miklós, Erzsébet, Miklós Jr and Hajnalka. They are proud of their single-vineyard wines (Zafír dűlő, Betsek dűlő, Király dűlő) and see their making of estate Aszú in the best vintages as a vocation.
