László Mészáros the director of Disznókő Szőlőbirtok and a member of the Confrérie de Tokaj is looking to him back like this:

He was one of the most important and charismatic individuals in the wine world. His wide-ranging work had a great impact on the development of Bordeaux and many other wine regions, but he also played a decisive role in the revival of the Tokaj Wine Region. For many of us who were able to meet and work with him in the 1990s, his personality is unforgettable: he opened our eyes to the world, he did a lot to make the world start discovering Tokaj again.

He was a visionary, but always down to earth. In 1992, as CEO of AXA Millésimes and president of Disznókő, he launched one of the first exemplary, spectacular investments in the wine region. He established contacts and forged friendships in Tokaj and Hungary, and his arrival was always an event. In his biography published last year, he dedicated a separate chapter to his friends and experiences in Tokaj between 1992 and 2000.

It would be difficult to list his numerous recognitions, the most prestigious professional magazines (Wine Spectator, Decanter) honored him with their highest awards. We are proud to have been Tokaji’s fellow wine knights and to have learned from him. We will remember him with gratitude and love.
