A day of conviviality and exploring past, present and future of Tokaj with some key players in the Tokaj wine world meeting in Mád on 27th April.

The Confrérie has had a spring tradition of the presentation of the most recent vintage of dry Tokaji wines. So naturally this year was the turn of the relatively early harvested 2018 vintage. This was followed by an exciting Tokaji Aszú retrospective 2013 to 1993. A journey through time and terroir enjoyed by tasters. Participating wineries were Disznókő, Erzsébet, Hétszőlő Tokaj, Orosz Gábor, Royal Tokaji, Samuel Tinon, Sauska, Szent Benedek, Zsirai. The venue? The Mád Education centre – and the first visit for many guests to this stylish building.
Intronisation of new members
We are delighted to welcome four new members into the Confrérie: journalist and author Jean-Charles Chapuzet, Krisztina Palágyi who worked in the region for many years, Daniel LLose technical consultant of AXA Millésimes and Domaines Jean-Michel Cazes, and Prof. Dr. István Stumpf former deputy Prime Minister, Justice at the Constitutional Court, professor of law and founder of Századvég Foundation . All are now entitled to wear the Confrérie’s yellow scarf presented along with the Tokaj-Hegyalja Album, a bottle of Tokaji Aszú and their certificate of membership. The oath? To strive to spread the renown of Tokaji wine. The joy? Being a member of a community passionate about Tokaj.
Visits to places of interest in Mád
Mariann Frank sensitively guided guests around the recently renovated Rabbi House in Mád and the Synagogue. A very moving experience indeed, and a chance to discover more about and pay tribute to the Jewish community that was such an integral part of the Tokaj Wine Region.
The group then crossed to the other side of the village, to enjoy a cellar tour and tasting at the impressive Holdvölgy labyrinth of cellars some over 500 years old! Another opportunity for deepening friendships and celebrating the many faces of Tokaj.
