Never have these unique auction wines been tasted in public – and the Circle of Wine Writers was a discerning audience for their début. The well-received wines were three dry 2012 single-vineyard Furmints and a 2010 Tokaji Aszú 5 puttonyos Hárslevelű. All have been safely cellared since bottling after they went under the hammer at the 2013 Great Tokaj Wine Auction, the Confrérie de Tokaj’s annual auction of contemporary lots. Dealers, collectors and wine lovers round the world have the opportunity to procure an exclusive lot, the traditional Tokaj barrel, just 136 litres. These wines are only offered at the Auction, with a small number of bottles entrusted to the Confrérie for key tasting events such as the Christmas party for the Circle of Wine Writers hosted by the Hungarian Ambassador this week at Westminster Cathedral Hall, London.
