Winemaking: This lot is the second half of the lot sold at last year’s Auction. This Aszú 5 puttonyos is the only barrel of Aszú wine that Samuel produced in 2011: the whole aszú vintage is concentrated in this wine. Each aszú berry was picked individually and the Eszencia remained in the aszú berries, thus entering the wine. These aszú berries were soaked in finished dry wine for three weeks, and after pressing, the wine was moved to the Gönci barrel. It was racked only once. It’s the Best of the Best of this vintage for us.

Wine tasting: “The colour and nose of this wine show its serious intensity. More mature, warm aromas with a touch of tobacco and walnut. The structure has the more restrained acidity typical of warm vintage, a leading character. Tannins are still powerful, the balance is good. The typical peach and apricot aromatics are complemented with a delicate stone fruit line. This long wine with deeper character is no sprightly youthful Aszú. Its finish is closed by a definite minerality.” (Gabriella Mészáros)
