Tokaj Crown Estates, the largest winery in the historic Tokaj wine region, is state-owned. Its main business is the production and purchase of grapes for winemaking and selling, as well as wine tasting.
This winery that owns 70 hectares of vineyards is a key player in the wine region: it is responsible for some 40 % of the region’s total wine production. As the regional integrator it buys grapes from around 1500 small-scale growers on over 1100 hectares.
In 2013 the winery took steps to improve quality. The complete transformation – which includes construction of a modern oenological complex that fulfils 21st-century requirements alongside the commitment to quality – is going according to plan. The aim is not only that the company break onto the world markets with higher quality products, but also that Tokaji wines re-occupy the place they deserve on the international market of quality wines.
