The Confrérie de Tokaj is working with the best winemakers in the region to prepare Tokaj Spring 2014, the main event of which is the Tokaj Wine Auction, following on from the great success of the first held in April 2013.

In response to invitations by the Confrérie, numerous producers have already announced their intention to participate and will choose from their best barrels to submit lots for tasting by a panel of experts, the Confrérie de Tokaj Wine Committee. The Committee, which will meet at the end of November to choose the lots worthy of being offered at the Tokaj Wine Auction, guarantees the quality of the wines to be auctioned. As for the 2013 Auction, the Confrérie Wine Committee responsible for checking and supervising the wines and will be demanding and exacting in the selection of wines to ensure the exemplary quality of lots presented at the Tokaj Wine Auction. The Tokaj Wine Auction, to be held in the Castle of Sárospatak, is part of the Tokaj Spring series of events which will be held on Friday 25, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th April 2014.

Friday 25th April 2014
This day will see the reception of winemakers offering lots at the Auction, would-be buyers and all those lovers of Tokaji wine who would like to visit. In the afternoon we will lead tours in the most beautiful vineyards and in the evening is the initiation dinner for new members of the Confrérie.
Saturday 26th April 2014
Saturday starts with a blind tasting of the Auction lots in the morning, followed by the Auction in the afternoon. As in 2013 we offer our buyers in Hungary and abroad the option to bid by telephone. Between the blind tasting and the Auction winemakers will share their commercially available wines at the buffet lunch on the impressive bastion of the Castle. The menu for the gala dinner in the evening, which will celebrate the start of a new chapter in the centuries-old cooperation between Tokaj and Poland, will be created by a renowned Polish chef.

Successful bidders at the Tokaj Wine Auction will have the opportunity to meet producers in their cellars. Other participants may join tours to the cellars.

In 2014 new features of Tokaj Spring will include:
– meeting participants in Budapest. There will be a presentation of the Tokaj Wine Region on the journey.
– bus transfer in the region during the event.
Tokaj Spring offers an excellent opportunity for the Confrérie to welcome new members in the initiation ceremony, the details of which are being developed by our Grand Maître and his team.
We will follow the preparations and announce new information regularly in every aspect of the media in Hungary and abroad. We will also endeavour to assist groups who would like to co-operate to buy a lot together to find each other.
