Megrendezésre került az első Tokaji Borlovagrend borvacsora Washington D.C.-ben

The event was hosted by the Ambassador of Hungary to the United States, Laszlo Szabo. His lovely wife Ivonn Szeverenyi and himself are also members of the Confrerie de Tokaj. The guest list included politicians, wine collectors, journalists, business owners and members of the Confrérie. Upon arrival the guests were offered a glass of Sauska Extra Brut, NV Sparkling Wine, which was followed by a seated formal dinner.

Laszlo Szabo started with an amazing presentation overviewing the wine history of Hungary and Tokaj and explaining the Aszú wines.

The four course dinner was  represented classic Hungarian flavors with a modern twist, created by the Embassy’s own Chef. What made the wine pairing unique that every course was paired with not one but two wines from Tokaj, served the in the new Riedel Furmint glasses.

The first course ( Duck Breast Carpaccio with Walnut-Pear Salad Tokaj mousse) had a memorable  twist as well since instead of starting with dry wines it was paired with Aszú wines (2013 Royal Tokaji 5 puttonyos and 2008 Disznókö 5 puttonyos).

The second course showcased the different grapes such as Furmint and Hárslevelü and the third course featured the different Crus of Tokaj.

Dessert was served with late harvest wines and we even saved a nice surprise for the end including some older vintages of 5 and 6 puttonyos Aszú wines.

The wines were presented by Confrérie de Tokaj Vice President Samuel Tinon, Andrea Sauska (member and winey owner), Miklós Katona (Director of Education Confrérie de Tokaj USA). The dinner was also accompanied by classic music presented by two local musician.

Right after the last wine was served, Laszlo Szabo and Samuel Tinon honored Eva Voisin with the unmistakably well respected Golden Scarf.

The primary goals of the event, namely to bring the region and the wines of Tokaj closer to the people who love and collect them, succeeded .
