Grand Tokaj - 5 puttonyos Tokaji Aszú 1963

Winemaking

This 5 puttonyos Tokaji Aszú wine was harvested and made using traditional Tokaji techniques. The Furmint grapes used for the base wine were harvested in fully ripe condition while the aszú berries were carefully selected and hand-picked individually. Following gentle processing the wine was matured in Zemplén oak casks and finally bottled. As a result of the appropriate wine storage this classic Tokaji Aszú retains all of its beauty and the unique traits of the exceptional 1963 vintage.

Wine tasting

“Deep golden in colour with reflexes tending to amber. A hint of opacity appears. Defined, clean and lively nose. Tobacco, wet leaf litter, with only the slightest touch of spiciness. Oxidisation subtly swings around the nose, deep and warm, giving elegant tones to the wine. On tasting superb acids and restrained sweetness appear first. Impeccable balance, no trace of tiredness. Since the sugar does not dominate the flavours, there is plenty of opportunity for the still fruitiness and restrained minerality to make their appearance. The aromatics are clearly defined by spicy and dried fruit notes. Exciting and elegant wine with smooth texture, long finish. Stored appropriately this wine still has potential.” (Mészáros Gabriella)
