Winemaking

The aszú berries selected in a given vineyard were macerated for 1 and a half days in fermenting must from the same vineyard. After pressing we racked the Aszú wines into used barrels where they finished fermenting in around 3 weeks. The one barrel of 6 puttonyos Vineyard Selection we are presenting at Auction is a blend of four vineyards we blended in early April 2017. We are aging it in 300-l Zemplén oak barrel in our cellar and cleaning has only been racking to date.

The wine will be submitted for national certification only after 1st January 2019, as stipulated in the Tokaj Product Specification.

Wine tasting

“Still very much a child in colour, the nose is however defined and refined, offering primarily citrus peel and some minerality. Beside the salty, herby notes you can discover the sweetness of apricot and peach. Lively and youthful nose with a hint of the barrel. Dynamic in the mouth with quite intensive and refined acids, the tannins are discernible but by no means overly so. A long and balanced wine right at the beginning of its development. It draws attention to itself with its definite character rather than with the fruitiness at present. Beautiful, unique flavours, a long Aszú.” (Mészáros Gabriella)
