Winemaking

The aromas, flavours and structures of these Aszús from three varieties vary greatly. The year 2014 was a cooler vintage with higher precipitation than those previously and thus the aszú berries were strongly botrytised, lively with fresh acidity. We macerated half of the Furmint and Zéta Aszú lots in fermenting must, half in wine; the Hárslevelű aszú berries were macerated only in wine. After two years’ barrel aging the wines became the lots for blending the Disznókő 5 puttonyos Aszú wines. We kept one of each of the most beautiful barrels and will bottle them after the Auction.

Wine tasting

“These Aszú from three different varieties again differ markedly from one another. This special selection gives an excellent opportunity to study the differences between them. Three independent characters which nevertheless are linked by the concentration endowed by the land, the soil and the aszú berries.

Hárslevelű Aszú 2014

Botrytis dominates the nose with rich character of linden honey, fig and citrus zest. A subtly complex wine with good proportions, not exaggerated tannins. The Botrytis citrus-apricot notes can be felt in the mouth with rich walnut-almond complement. Its structure retains a kind of lightness throughout. Still in the barrel, this lot is at the beginning of its development.

Zéta Aszú 2014

True to the variety, this wine is much denser than the Hárslevelű, presenting a warmer, softer, seemingly sweeter structure. Indeed it is somewhat more concentrated, richer. Alongside good acidity, the around 160 g residual sugar simply complements the flavour of the wine, not tipping the balance towards the rounding factors.

Furmint Aszú 2014

The fruits from one of the winery’s favourite vineyards, Dorgó. Although not declared a single-vineyard Aszú, the very best grapes from the best lands are vinified for these lots. In this year the Furmint gives the sharpest face and at the same time the most defined character.

The Hárslevelű is almost Bohemian, the Zéta generously full and soft while the Furmint is the embodiment of superioirity. Superb structure, subtle shades of aromatics with spices and defined Botrytis notes. The three wines together present a stunning style.” (Gabriella Mészáros)
