Winemaking: We harvested the perfectly ripe bunches in small (20 kg) boxes then pressed them at low pressure in our small pneumatic press without destemming. The must settled in 500-litre new Zemplén oak barrels, then fermented there with cultured yeast. Fermentation was followed by racking and stabilisation and the wine is aging in the same barrel. Of the 500-litre lot only 136 litres will be bottled alone for the Confrérie auction..

Wine tasting: “This vineyard planted in 1994 has loamy, looser clay soil with rhyolite fragments as well as loess and some lime. The grapes are relatively early ripening which is advantageous in warmer vintages, guaranteeing lively acidity. Since grapes from this vineyard are generally the base for sweet wines, it is rare to taste a dry example. Restrained aromas, very substantial flavours. Refined acidity structure with just a hint of tannin. The presence of the 500-l new barrel is only just discernible. Impeccable balance, a defined and very pure character. Its beautiful acids and careful barrel use have resulted in an elegant structure of this wine which fills our mouth splendidly for a long finish. (Gabriella Mészáros)
