Winemaking: The parcel at the second peak of Úrágya vineyard (1.3050 ha) sustains 100 % Furmint clone 65 and its nominated clone. This east-, southeast-facing land 220-245 m above sea level is the stoniest part of any Mád vineyard. Work here tests both man and machine, but in return it gives a stunning view over Mád and the surrounding volcanic vineyard hills.

The bunches were selected during the mid-October harvest; only 100 % healthy, loose-bunch grapes were picked for this wine. After gentle pressing it was fermented in a second-fill barrel with its own natural yeast and kept on fine lees for three months.

Wine tasting: “The Úrágya vineyard is an emblematic terroir of Mád. The sun setting behind the vineyard truly does bring reassuring safety with it. Old vines produce grapes with complex acidity structure and its wines are characterised by distinct minerality. Every year Szepsy offers superb wines from this terroir. Looking back at tastings over the last ten years, the Úrágya Furmints have always finished among the best. And the 2014 wine seems no exception. Its concentration and complexity are already outstanding. A long wine, impeccable structure – which is still just at the beginning of its development.” (Gabriella Mészáros)
