Orosz Gábor Tokaji Aszúesszencia 2002

Sugar: 400 g/l
Alcohol: 6 %

Winemaking: The first wave of botrytisation during a dry period in mid-September brought extremely concentrated aszú berries with higher than usual sugar levels and equally high acidity in a year when the quality of later aszú grapes would be marked by the diluting effect of heavy rains later that autumn. We picked just 200 kilograms of these exceptional berries which we macerated in a mere 120 litres of base wine to create this outstanding Aszúeszencia.

Tasting notes: “Amber colour. On the nose it shows a strong raisin character or Pedro Ximenés (sweet sherry) alongside which the pretty linden flower note becomes apparent. We cannot speak about balance in this wine the same way as in a dry wine, but this wine has great acidity. Concentrated gingery pear, sweet and long.” (Gabriella Mészáros)
