Szepsy Pince

As of 2013 Szepsy Borászati Kft. (3909 Mád, Batthyány u. 59.) cultivates 51.5 ha vineyards. 100% family owned, the wines are made exclusively from grapes grown on the estate: in 6 villages, in 20 dűlő (Mád: Danczka, Birsalmás, Úrágya, Urbán, Sarkad, Nyúlászó, Szent Tamás, Király, Betsek; Mezőzombor: Dorgó; Tarcal: Thurzó, Nyulas; Bodrogkeresztúr: Lapis, Szepsy; Rátka: Újhegy; Holdvölgy, Herceg; Tállya: Hasznos, Bányász, Sasalja).

Strict principles govern the concept:
– high-lying, stony vineyards
– old vines, small-bunch Furmint preferred
– low yield per vine, achieved with several green harvests
– avoidance of all forms of fertiliser
– no use of soil herbicides and pesticides
– barrel fermentation and ageing
– Hungarian (Zemplén) oak barrels with light-medium toasting

Wines:
– 6 puttonyos Aszú
– Édes (Sweet) Szamorodni
– Dry wines (selected by dűlő (vineyard), more recently by parcel too)

Average number of bottles sold annually:
– Aszú 7,000 bottles
– Szamorodni 10,000 bottles
– Dry wines 25,000 bottles
