One of the greatest wines I have ever tasted was an 1876 Tokaji Ausbruch (Aszú) bottled for the Austrian Royal Court. At the same event, I tasted many other exceptionally rare wines from France, Portugal, and California, including several wines from the 1860s. But the 1876 Aszú impressed me most: its incredible complexity, depth, and aftertaste, which went on for several minutes. At that moment, I understood the absolute potential of Tokaji Aszu—one of the many reasons I am pleased to be part of this great event.
