Winemaking

We harvested 100 % Furmint grapes, selecting only the ripe bunches, from the Öreg Király terraces on 24th September, right before the first significant rains of the 2016 vintage. The grapes were gently treated in the vertical press, then the must settled and was drawn off before temperature controlled spontaneous fermentation. The Teraszok (“terraces”) wine is resting on fine lees until late February, early March.

Wine tasting

“The grapes are from the terraced part which give the most concentrated wines of the Király-dűlő (“Old King”) in Mád. The winery has cultivated the vines organically for years, specifically to ensure the greatest possible protection for the hill. The vines are slowly reaching the age when we can talk of an established plantation. The nose is clean and defined. The fresh yeastiness of youth can still be subtly discerned in the mouth complemented by peppery spiciness. Herbs and salty-mineral notes in the background. The structure of the wine is impeccable, with perfect balance. The tannins are still lively but together with the acids they do not unsettle the superb structure. Balanced, elegant wine. The fruit flavours are still slightly in the background, but the length compensates for this.” (Gabriella Mészáros)
