After 7 months it was bottled in the new green 0.75l Tokaj shape bottles which bear the name Tokaj. With a glass stopper. The name on the label is SZEPSY NYÚLÁSZÓ ’58.

Nyúlászó Vineyard, Parcel “58”, covers 3043-m2 on the SE side, under the ridge. Planted in 1928, the vineyard has Furmint vines with many bunch types that are cordon-trained at mid-height. Subsoil is many-layered of broken quartz tuff, rhyolite pumice, rhyolite tuff and pyroxene andesite (at a depth of 7 m). The gaps between the solid rocks are filled with montmorillonite, kaolinite, illite, orthoclase and zeolite.

The balance of the fruit-to-leaf ratio is continually tuned by István Szepsy himself from the end of May to the harvest. 100 % healthy, yellow bunches under 120g were harvested on 30th September 2013. Crushed and destemmed, there was then one night of maceration. After settling the must fermented in a 400-litre second-fill barrel. Racked off and sulphured, the wine is continuing to age in a 220 l barrel.

Character of the 2013 Nyúlászó ’58: serious body, dense structure with long, complex acidity, exceedingly mineral but fragrant and with fruits (peach, pear) accompanied by sweet alyssum and a touch of oak.

Tasting notes: “The slowly opening bouquet reveals hints of William’s pear, quince and apricot. On the palate, these fruit aromas make room for tart minerals, a muscular body and round alcohol. The terroir is so dominant in the taste that any other flavours — be it sundried fruit or wood — are relegated to the background. The acids mitigate seriousness of this wine.” (Gabriella Mészáros)
